why can't I login?

I have completed installing Linux Red Hat Version 6 and I am unable to login. Where was I suppose to choose a user name and password?

I am presuming by that, you mean Fedora Core 6.

During the install, you will have been asked to set a root password and also create a user.

Try logging in with username "root" and any password you remember specifying during the install.

Otherwise, the simplest option is to reinstall and carefully read what each step of the installer is asking you for.

And if NOT, go get something more modern. Quick search says that Redhat 6 goes back to ~1999 or 2000

You can--in principle--boot from the install CD, ctrl-alt-F1 for a terminal, mount the /etc partition (on the new Linux partition) and edit the /etc/passwd file to allow root to log in with no password.
