Think with the same parameters as in windoze

you need a name, a workgroup, an IP and no more; hosts file lives also in windoze

can you connect from XP? can you ping to linux box?

Yah, it works fine in windows. I've got it hooked up to the laptop right now, and it's working fine. Someone on another site mentioned that I might need a router. Any thoughts on that?

Is samba installed?

setup smb.conf with your host (machine parameters) and whats dirs are share

Also put
security=share
inside that file

When u finish with it, type as root

testparm

and restart smb (/etc/init.d/smbd restart)
then the smbmount command

I retract my help request.
By some godly act of magic mojo, it works.

I hate magic mojo because it means that I can't add anything to my Post Mortem notebook. :-/
