One of the options on the main taskbar on kde2 on my suse linux system has the option to add a taskbar, but that option is greyed out and not accessable. Does anyone have any idea on how to add a taskbar, my main one is very cluttered. It would help if I could just add a system tray, but that option is also greyed out.

Can you use those options as root?

If so then it sounds like your account needs to be part of a group which can edit the desktop. Have a look in /etc/groups and see which groups are in there.
