Who put file "dirlist" here?

Why is the text file "dirlist" in my Home directory.

I do not know what I need it for, nor how it got here.

It has very strange file listings with very strange permissions.

Does anyone know what program creates it and places it here?

Can I stop it?

Is it a security problem?!

Could be signs of malicious activity. You should use "ls -l" to figure out who owns the file and when it was last modified. Then check things like cron jobs or commands that you might've run at about the time the file was created. Try to figure out if the file changes on a regular basis.

Thank you for answering, btmiller!

I remembered that I did find a file recently:
I clicked it and waited but it never opened.
I thought it was just a .txt file.
Is it possible that it was redirected to my Home directory as a dirlist .txt file?

I have not discovered any new dirlist file,

pagefile.sys is a windows file

This file is used for virtual memory in the windows operating system. Kinda like your swap parttion.

Thank you!

Perhaps that means the dirlist I found was just a list of my pagefile.sys files that I found and clicked.
