Whine whine wine

I'm really having problems @ configuring wine. I compiled fine, and tried to follow the instructions the best I could. When I run winecheck i get :
Wine configuration correctness score: 80.35%

With these errors :
----------------------- checking registry configuration ------------------------
024. Checking availability of winedefault.reg entries... CRITICAL (entry "SHAREDMEMLOCATION" not found in system.reg registry file).- ADVICE: file winedefault.reg doesn't seem to have been applied using regapi.
025. Checking availability of windows registry entries... NOTICE (entry "Default Taskbar" not found).
023. Checking MIDI sequencer device /dev/sequencer... BAD (no kernel driver for /dev/sequencer?).
- ADVICE: module loading problems ? Read /usr/src/linux/Documentation/modules.txt.

Now when I try to run anything it gives me :
sh-2.05a$ wine notepad
Warning: could not find wine config [Drive x] entry for current working directory /usr/local/wine-20020710/programs/notepad; starting in windows directory.
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 1 (X_CreateWindow)
Serial number of failed request: 25
Current serial number in output stream: 33

The registry thing is very confusing to me. I don't know exactly what to do with what. I am very stuck at this point and the winehq website wasn't very helpful in this matter.

Please help

see if you can run:

winesetup
or
wine_setup

remeber tab-completion so just type wine and then tab 2 or 3 times and you will see if you have setup program for it.

if not,

run:

mkdir -p /your/home/dir/.wine

then try running wine.

if this doesnt work, look in the src dir of wine and search all the dirs for executable comands. there might be program called regapi in htere smewhere. run that. you may need to add a config file to your ~/.wine directory. look on the web or ask someone for an example, its a pretty standard file.

PEACE OUT

I created .wine directory /home/lackluster/.wine and added the sample config file which I modified to my liking. I believe everything in the config file is correct. I guess my problem is I don't understand the regapi at all. Or, to be more specific, I don't know what it wants as input. I did this:
$wine regapi

then it tells me some stuff (I'm not at home on my linux computer right now) about how to use it so I do this:
$wine regapi < orig.reg

or something to that effect, but still I am back where I started....
