You are posting your question in the wrong forum. Also, saying Linux 7.2 doesn't make sense. However all Linux distro's will have bash, so the distro and version don't matter in this case. You should read the terms of using this site. And when you post a question on why a command doesn't work, you should post the command that didn't work as well as the error message.

Probably the Newbie or programming forum. You might also want to peruse the "info bash" and "info coreutils" manuals.

Is one file a symbolic link to the other?

Edit: don't go and repost this thread in the correct forum, as it has been reported and Jeremy or one of the mods will move it.

Moved: This thread is more suitable in Linux - Newbie and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves. Is there anything we could have done to make it clearer the forum you originally posted this in is only for feedback about LQ itself? You answer may help improve LQ.
