I'm quite taken with wps office it's pretty much a flat out clone of ms office so feel more familiar to me than libre since I live in ms office at work

I say LibreOffice as well. Tons of features compared to others on the Linux side, and file compatibility is a huge plus if you need to use a non-Linux computer or network to print something off (like a college, library, or workplace) or finish a project else-where. Can't go wrong with Libre!

Pretty much everyone has said LibreOffice and I think I'll agree with them. It's a viable alternative to Microsoft Word, and is much better than OpenOffice in terms of development status. You can even get both the ribbon and classic interfaces unlike MS Office

LibreOffice Writer is my word processor of choice. However, I don't believe the Linux version has any "better features" than the Windows version.
