Which WINE best emulates Windows XP SP3?
I am running UNR Ubuntu 10.10 on a netbook
I want to run MS Publisher 2003 on it. Which WINE best emulates Windows XP SP3? Once I have WINE, do I need to worry about Windows issues like Defragging and registry errors and need an antivirus? |
Do you really needs Ms Publisher? have no alternative like http://www.osalt.com/publisher ?
SP3 do not do anything in your windows XP is only a plent of bugs on windows XP you can change a key in register and makes any program run without SP3 I run various games and programs that needed sp3. I think it makes more easy to compatibilise wine with XP SP3, but I ask for you is really needed for you use publisher? And no no need worry about nothing it is Linux not windows. |
WINE = Wine Is Not an Emulator
Wine allows you to run some Windows apps in Linux, but it does not actually emulate Windows in the way you are thinking. You do not need to worry about viruses, defragging, registry, etc. since you are still running Linux. There is a vast database of supported/unsupported applications at the winehq.org site, for example: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...estingId=17321 |
Yes I NEED publisher as there are no other program that can open a .pub file.
I am NOT currently running XP as my OS. I am using Ubuntu UNR 10.10. I need a WINE to run Publisher 2003. Can you help? |

If you go to the Wine website, and then onto the AppDB (application database), and search for Publisher, you'll find compatibility information. Here is the page for Publisher 2003. It has a "bronze" rating, which means it installs and runs but has quite a few bugs, and it's been tested on various Wine versions including the current one, 1.3.6. tl;dr: Try Wine 1.3.6 first. |
