Which version should I use with Athlon 4 laptop?

I have an older laptop with an AMD Athlon 4 processor. Which version will work best? I have installed Ubuntu 9.04 but I seem to be having some issues with it. Is there something better? Thanks for the help.

You can try Xubuntu, it's less resource intensive.

Personally,I would download a good selection of distros and try them all.The one that works best gets to stay.Im a Slackware guy so I would start with that.
