which version of gcc adapted to multi-core architecture
 
I am working on making compilers (like GCC) to be adaptable to multi-core architecture but I have am facing a problem that is I don't know starting from which version of gcc starts adapting multi-core architectures.

any of the current versions

most current distros are using the gcc4.???
gcc 4.4 to gcc 4.8
