Which linux that is small but still has access to a wide variety of software
 

I am currently using Opensuse which I do like but I keep breaking the on line update
I am thinking for trying a different Linux that will work decently on my Laptop (Dell precision m4300) but dosen't have thing installed like games but I need to be able to have access through my network to my other linx PC . also need things like torrnt software emai client ( thunderbird possibly) firefox web browser ( becaue I have allot of plugins and book marks I use) also gnome well it doesn't have to be gnome but I am mostly familiar with Gnome never liked KDE.

Debian will certainly fit all your requirements and I'm sure many (most?) other distros will do so as well. You can choose what you want and not choose what you don't. Debian has a very large software package inventory.

If you are not interested in multimedia or games, and you have a preference for GNOME 2, you could install
a RHEL 6 clone such as CentOS, Scientific Linux or Springdale. Scientific Linux (SL) works well on a Dell Latitude D630.
By default, SL using Evolution for email+agenda, but it is not difficult to replace that with Thunderbird+Lightning.

Why don't you just uninstall the games from your current install if they're bothering you, I don't understand?
