In most cases, running from an install to the HDD will use less CPU power, less RAM, etc. than running from a liveCD/DVD.

BTW, any system that will run a current linux distro is capable of dealing with data at much higher speeds than CD/DVD drives can read it.

Wow, this is new to me. I thought that since all the data on a live CD/DVD is coming off the disk, the only hardware that is "stressed" is the DVD drive. But from what you're saying, it sounds like it's pretty much the opposite.

Thanks for the "redirection!" :)

Its not that bad.

You will get more RAM use and CPU use in a lot of cases, but that shouldnt add too much stress to the system. Unless of course you are running not enough RAM for the distro, or the CPU is being used a huge amount...and if the CPU is being used that heavily, in a most cases CPU use would still be very high even if it was installed.

AV Linux is my "daily driver". I love it. I tried it as a Live-DVD and recall that it ran considerably faster than other live disks i've used before.
