Which is better, GNOME or KDE.

I currently am enjoying KDE more because it's slighly more user friendly to the new linux user. I do wonder which I should want to adjust to and learn.

This was my thoughts exactly. kde seems to have more of a interface, but gnome just seems . . .better. I'm sticking with kde for a while.

I love Kde. Shouldn't "user friendly" be good?
Many will say it is too resource heavy, too bloated, and too many useless programs.

Gnome is not too bad. You should certainly try it out. With many distros, having both is optional. The best of both worlds.

Whichever one (or something else) that works best for you. That would be the best one.

BINGO. Try both. For that matter, try Windowmaker, XFCE, FVWM, Blackbox, Fluxbox, TWM and IceWM too. Stick with the one which works best for you.

There is no right or wrong answer here.

I have not heard of all of those GUI's I think they're called, but gnome and kde. Thanks for the input regardless!

apt-get-dude 03-26-2006 09:40 PM

kde (my choice)

Ahmed 03-26-2006 10:05 PM

Try every one you can get your hands on. KDE's ok, but I prefer Gnome. Windowmaker seems very promising, I might start using it soon once I have the time and nerves. XFCE and fluxbox are also nice, so you might as well just give them all a shot, stay with them for a day or two and see how you get along with them.

It's all good; Both are a lot of fun to customize and work well. Heck any windowmanager/Desktop environment is a lot of fun to customize.

We get this kind of thread very often, so use the search facility to find out more info from previous threads. As to which is better, that depends on your needs and personal preference.

Thanks for the idea.

I never thought to search archived topics on here.

Well now you know :) saves waiting for a response to your posted questions.

I've been watching enlightenment carefully, it's really nice and clean, it's still in heavy development so quite buggy, but i think it'll be a serious contender when it's released.

Ditto, using e17 right now. In my opinion, the best looking wm for linux :)
