Which Fedora can I Install ???
 

Hello all

I've Installed fedora core 6 befor , but i've lost the Cd's
recently I've Downloaded Fedora core 9 Cd's (I386)
when i start the setup wizard , from 'Netinst' Cd that's i've got with the other 6 cd's of fedora
I Tried first to set them up from the hard disk , ISO files
it can't read the ISO files on my hard disk or recongnize them
' It's seems that your /dev/sda1 dosn't contain Fedora image'

I've tried to burn all CD's and try again , and Still the same message
'put your fedora cd in your cdrom/dvd abd press ok'

I've a pc , Intel celeron . I think that i've downloaded the wronge version for my pc . I don't know if i downloaded the wrong one ' I386'
and If I've to download the 'PPC' Version or not
please advise ...

It is a little hard to follow what you are saying...

From the end:
the "i386" version is the correct one for your PC

What do you mean by this??:
I would recommend installing any Linux version from ONE CD. (Not a net-install). Fedora has a single-CD version, but you have to dig for it.

When you burn the CDs, be sure you are selecting "burn from .iso" or "burn from image". The computer is booted from the CD, and then you follow the instructions from there.

After installing the base system from the ONE CD, you can then get everything else using the package manager.

Let me explain it from the beginning

I've downloaded the 6 cd's Of 'I386' from Fedoraproject.org of Fedora core 9 , and also i downloaded the netinst cd with them

I don't know what's the difference between 'I386' , 'PPC' and 'x86_64'

anyway , I've got the CD's of 'I386'
I burnt only 1 Cd , the ' Netinst' cd to can boot and start the setup from it , then i choose that i want to install from my hard desk
(notice that I put my ISO files on FAT32 drive)
and the wizard couldn't read teh files on the hard drive .

then i burned the 6 cd's
and i started the setup once more from 'netinst' cd
and then i choose to setup from cd's
and when i put the 1st cd it says also that it can't find the fedora cd's
and really i don't know what's the problem , and i already burnt it as Image ISo , and the burn went fine

The only this i think it's wronge
that i've the wronge version

Maybe i had to download the 'PPC' or 'x86_64' version insted of the ' I386' Version

"i386" is the correct version for your hardware.

To install, you would boot the computer from either the "netinst" CD OR the first of the 6 regular CDs--you would typically not use both.

Since you have the regular CDs, just use those (not "netinst") Can you boot the computer from CD#1?

You don't want to be trying to read the iso files on the hard drive--the installer will use what is on the CDs

Ok--it appears that the CD is booting, but that the boot code cannot find the kernel. That suggests a bad CD.

First, try it in another computer. If it works there, then you might have a drive issue. If it does NOT work on another computer, then try making another CD using a lower speed.

It is also possible that you had a bad download--did you check the MD5 sums?

If you have any doubt about any of these steps, I would simply download the 1 CD version of Fedora, check the sums, and burn a new CD.

I really think that maybe the 1 cd is damaged by download error
so , I'm going to download it again

but about checking MD5 Sums?
how can I do The checking

Some CD burning programs include md5 checking. In Linux, there is the "md5sum" command. I imagine that there is something similar for Windows. A Google search should find it.
