which distro will work with dell inspiron e1505?
Totally new to this stuff... Installed Ubuntu 8.10 on Inspiron e1505 and wireless doesn't work. Followed several "how-to" posts, but it's over my head and I'm getting nowhere. Has anyone successfully installed a Linux distro that works with this machine without too much tweaking? It has a Dell wireless 1390 WLAN mini-card - also Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. I came across a post which looked like Ubuntu 6.1 might work, so in the meantime I'll give that a shot. Any help is appreciated. Thanks - Bill

More details please?
Hello Bildom,
Can you provide us with some more details in regards to the errors you are getting or what howtos you have tried? Typically, going back two major version numbers will not render better driver support. I have had good experiences with wireless support undero both Fedora as well as OpenSuSE. Can you paste the output of lspci and lsmod in this thread as well so we can see what kernel modules/drivers are being loaded and what the system is interpreting the wireless adapter as? Thanks, ~Art |

Almost any distro, just depends on what you want it to do and how much work you want to put into it.
