Unhappy Which Distro will work?

So far I've failed to find anything that will boot properly on the hardware I have at the moment...

Let me give some background:

I have previously installed Mandriva (was my favoured distro for a long time from back in the Mandrake days) and more recently been a fan of Gentoo - both on multiple configurations.

However my current machine refuses to work with anything other than (sorry to say this) MS Vista

I tried Knoppix, LFS, Deb and Ubuntu as well as my favoured distros.

A pattern has emerged: either they don't want to see my NV RAID array or they freeze at boot.

The only distro I have tried that does none of the above is gentoo - this one crashes my wireles router as soon as I bring up wlan0 (windows machines and other distros work fine with the WLAN).

Am I destined to be stuck with windows here or is there a fix to get Mandriva 2009 to boot?

AMD Phenom II 940 Black Edition
ASRock K10N750SLI-WiFi motherboard
6GB Ram
2x 500GB HDD (Samsung Spinpoint SATA, RAID0 connected to NV RAID controller on mobo)
2x nVidia 8800GT graphics

All latest bios flashes and firmware applied - if details of my DVD-RW drives are required then let me know (both are IDE)

Crashes your wireless router ??
I have not heard of that before.
Can you describe in more detail.

Was that with WEP, WPA, or no security?

When I say "crashing the router" I mean that as soon as I bring up my wlan0 interface in Gentoo every computer in the house loses connnectivity and I have to reboot the thing.

Biggest problem is that it isn't my router, it belongs to my fiancee's dad (it's a Zoom device, looks like one of these) so I have no access to the config in there.

Edit: No security set up on the router (so it's not a WEP/WPA/WPA2 issue).
