Which distro to use?

OK, I have been thinking about making the plunge into linux on my main box and leaving M$ behind. I have 2 different distros on CD to chose from. I have a 3 CD set of Red Hat 9, and Knoppix. THe last time I fidled around with linux I did a Knoppix HD install. And as you all know, Knoppix is debian. So the apt-get is nice. :) But I have some concerns. I have 2 80 gig harddrives using software RAID built-in to Win2k(I know, BIG mistake). Now, I would just disconnect the drives and move them to a different computer. But I'm worried I will lose my data. And I dunno if Linux will be able to read the drives as one or not. And if linux can read them, I'd want to be able to write to them too. Any and all help would be appreciated! :)

I would say to look at the 15 billion other "What distro should I use" posts archived here.

If you already have the redhat cds, then use that and go here:
http://freshmeat.net/
and get APT-RPM or apt4rpm. I use it on my RH9 system and it works great.
