Which Distro for Windows Wireless Card Driver?
 

Hello,
Thank you to anyone who can help me.
I am setting up a linux system with an old laptop. All that I will need it to do, when it is switched on, is to log on and display a browser window at a particular Internet site. I will require its connection to the network to be through an RTL8180l chipset wireless card.
This card, I believe is only supported in Linux through NDISwrapper.
I have tried ubuntu and vector linux, but it has proved too difficult for me to set up the wireless connection (dmesg showed errors when loading the ndiswrapper drivers).
I wonder if anyone could recommend to me a distribution which makes it really easy to set up the RTL8180l card, and which won't slow the laptop down too much?

try the downloads from the manufacturer.. always look there first.

select the driver for your appropriate kernel.

it should work on any distro, maybe the distros you tried didnt include the driver for it. i say check out distrowatch.com and pick a distro from the right list.. read about them and decide which one to install. id recommend slackware if you like to do alot of configuration manually to learn how everything works together. or try opensuse, ubuntu (again) or anything really.

when you have your distro isntalled, include it in your LQ.org profile so we know what one your using.. we can then further help you from there.
once you install the distro, give us the output of 'uname -a', and the output of the error when you try setting up ndiswrapper (without using the above driver, yet)

I was hoping there would be some magic linux distribution which would do it all automatically.
Oh well, I'll retry ndiswrapper on vector linux (based on slackware) and give you the exact error details.
