Welcome to LQ

Any good linux distro can do what you want. Visit www.distrowatch.com for a detail overview of various linux distributions.

It is beyond the scope to detail every step of setting up a server to perform the tasks you want in this forum. You will need to read the documentation of the distro you wish to use.

I will recommend Ubuntu Server Edition. It has a good documentation for setting the types of services you want for the client machines on the network.

Scroll down and click ubuntu server guide

Hope this helps

Hi,

Welcome to LQ!

You could do a search here on LQ as this question has been presented many times. As previously stated, the scope of your query is rather broad and the detail required would not be justifiable for the helpers here on LQ.

Do a little googling and you will find more information then you could ever want or use.

I prefer Slackware and utilize it for servers and desktops. Take a gander at the links in my Sig.

The firewall Distro that i am using is now called clark connect which i am running on a amd sempron 1ghz 128mb sd ram with a 5200FX geforce card and it works like a charm :)

There are other distros like ipcop, smoothwall, shorewall but the one i like the most is this

ASG Security gateway which is almost like 600mb iso image which comes with all features that you might require like DDNS,dhcp,webproxy,netfilter,IDS\IPS,VPN,ntp, and more, there is a free version of it on their site which you can download along with the license key free of cost. If you like ASG make sure you have a good system with atleast 512+mb ram.

By the way you can choose any distro if you wanted to run dhcp, all you need is dhcpd package.
