How should we know that? You don't give us a single clue what you want to achieve with Linux.
I would recommend to go to Distrowatch and give the first ten of the list a try, if you search something for everyday use.
But without knowing your intentions and your hardware this is just a shot in the dark.

This distro chooser might help you choose the right distro for you:

I dont know what type of usage, you have of linux.
If you are a developer fedora/centos/debian is best. If you want to use linux as a desktop and having rich GUI then u can choose Suse/Ubuntu.

In fact you can download/install development tools in any linux distribution, but it may cause difficult to find support for that.

There are plenty of linux distributions available.

plz visit the below site
http://distrowatch.com/

The only thing does matter is test and need.

Mr. Murar

I want to install qmail server.

frankbell 06-21-2011 09:44 PM

Qmail should run just fine on any flavor of Linux.

Could you tell us a little more about what your are looking to do with the machine? Maybe that could narrow down the candidates.

There are also many "what distro should I pick" threads on LQ. You could use the LQ search feature to see what's been written about various choices.

You can use any linux distribution to create your own qmail server.
Ubuntu, Mandriva, Debian, Centos etc

Try to use Ubuntu or centos

Can you explain why you want OP to install Ubuntu? For something like a mail server which plays a critical role in business. CentOS is an acceptable choice but Ubuntu would not be a smart choice. Go with Ubuntu server if you like. Debian and Slackware are other very stable server distributions that you can look into. I have used Qmail on CentOS 5 and was happy with the way things turned out. But remember that all those distributions are community editions and you will not have paid support from the community and if you are planning a mission critical mail server, you can opt for RHEL or SLES where you get paid support which is indeed helpful when you can observe down times.
