whether dll.a is static or dynamic library


what is difference between dll and dll.a library file ?

I know dll in windows is similar to .so in linux.But what about .dll.a extension ?.Whether it is static or dynamic library?

when i ran file filename.dll.a

output ---> current ar archive

How did you get such a file? it is something like something.exe.c

I am cross compiling webkitclutter on linux for windows using mingw toolchain.So all the libraries created is of .dll.a extensions

Strange. I did use mingw, and it created normal *.dll files for me. Anyway, what is the content of these *.dll.a archives? (ar tv libsomething.dll.a)

The quickest way through this is to state in detail your aim, your tools, your configure commands, what went wrong, and what you have.
