Where would I find language programming info for using terminal in Fedora?

I am a new user of Fedora [now 16] and I am having a wonderful time just trying to get my printer scanner to work or get the new flash player to install [or get the office icons to appear in Fedora 17 - that's why I went backwards to Fedora 16]. I would like to know where there are any online publications or sites that explain the the basic setup of the OS and what I am supposed to be doing and writing in terminal in order to install software or get things to work [I have been using and running Windows since 1995 - never used linux before though].
Any help or info would be greatly appricated.
C

Hi:

What you need is YUM. Which is The Yellowdog Updater, Modified
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellowd...ater,_Modified

Yum is a utility that you use in the terminal to update, upgrade, install packages and application to your Fedora OS.

To update your Fedora run:
Code:
yum update
(or) su -c 'yum update'
To install a package run:
Code:
yum install <package_name>
For example I just installed VLC a Media Player so I opened the terminal and ran:
Code:
yum install vlc
Fedora uses red hat package manager and it wouldn't hurt to read up on that as well. I did-

As far as your printer goes; go to your Applications menu > Scrowl down to Administration > and you should see 'Printing' The printing wizard should open and walk you through setting up your printer.

Here is Chapter 10 that covers printing-

If you have a Hewett Packard you may need to install HPLIP

Hope this helps

If you consider the thread 'SOLVED' (insofar as a thread of this nature can be solved) can you mark it as such please, using the link at the top of the page?

Thanks,
