"Where To Start?"

I have a Gateway Pentium 3, 500 Mhz, 384 memory, 20 gig hard drive, running windows 98se. Can you advise which distribution is best suited for this machine? Also, do the distributions support AIM Instant Messaging? My daughters will not use computer without this "all important" feature. Looking forward to going Linux!! Thanks, flyfishin

this is not related to the Linux From Scratch distribution and will shortly be moved to a suitable forum.

Moved: This thread is more suitable in Linux-Newbie and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

This is because Linux From Scratch is a distribution in itself, rather than a phrase to mean "starting from nothing".

Take a look at Distrowatch.com Start with anything on the top ten on their "hit list". all modern ones should be fine on that machine---and all will have instant messaging SW.

Do you want to keep Windows and dual-boot? If so, there are more tips we can give you.
