Hi
In the terminal

Try pressing Ctrl+Alt+t that will bring up the terminal.

Or open dashboardtop left then in the search bar type terminal

Try to press [ALT]+[F2] and type your command(example: type xterm to open xterm; or type your command and click "run in terminal").
To avoid navigating to directories (using cd dir_name) try to navigate to particular folder using GUI, then right click, select terminal.

Or hit Ctrl + Alt + F[1-6] to go to virtual console (kinda like full version :D ).
Alt + F7 or Alt + F8 to go back to GUI.
