Where should scripts be placed?

Is there an equivalent of "C:\Windows" where scripts should be placed, so that they're in the path?

I know the gist of how to create a script, I just don't remember where to put them...

Your choice....if you put them in /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin they'll usually be in the path. If you put them in something like /usr/local/scripts why not add that to the path?

Thank you -

Which configuration file has the path information? It seems like there are several files that have such information... (probably because I'm still learning...)
