Where gone 'linuxconf' in RH9
Hello linux gurus,
I usually edit the config files for changing configurations. In RedHat 6.2 I found linuxconf, a nice interface in text mode [i.e. bash terminal] to change configuration and in RH7 also had that I heard. Recently I installed RH9 but but couldn't discover and invoke that linuxconf yet :-?. Though I am comfortable in editing with vi but my many followers... newbies from windowed-world here are not. I saw during start up message showing linuxconf = [ok]. Any clue where is that one buried! Bulgy X-Windows desktops are wonderful but Text mode is always champion. Thanks Deb |
i'm at work on an xp machine, but you could always try:
updatedb locate linuxconf or: find / -name linuxconf hope this helps. Edit: more than likely it's /sbin/linuxconf which would be in root's PATH but not yours. |
linuxconf isn't installed by default anymore cause its insecure, buggy and just plain sucks. If you really want a GUI interface to admin your box, try www.webmin.com
