where do i edit the bootup menu list between XP/Redhat9?
hello people i've just installed a dual boot OS on my system
and just wondering where i would edit the bootup (for example in windows = boot.ini) menu so i can put XP(DOS) as my default startup and Linux Redhat as the second? thanks in advance |
if you are using grub, you need to edit "/boot/grub/menu.lst"

hi there
as i told u in my above post u need to follow the instructions what do u see written on the screen??? lilo or grub edit the file accordingly as mentioned in my last post regards |
@tecrax - even though the MBR was where you probably installed the bootloader, the information is not going to be written to any file / folder in Windows. You need to look in Linux.
@masand - he probably didn't realize that the config files were in Linux as opposed to in Windows, since Windows is on the primary IDE controller as the Primary drive. @tecrax - I use Fedora Core as a dual boot with Win XP as the main boot OS (thus far) and there is an option (at least from the KDE menu, and in the menu under gnome as well) that lets you edit he necessary file wherever it is set on your Linux distro to change the options. In KDE, I go to 'System Settings' ==> bootloader and change which I want to boot. I also changed the names in the file itself from another menu, using the KDE Control Center found in 'Preferences'. |
