where can I get wine
Hi I need a link to a download page for wine.
I have Ubuntu 8 (pls just the link):Pengy: |
you don't need a download link, it's in apt - "apt-get install wine" should do it. you should really upgrade your system though, getting on for 3 years old...
btw, don't expect wine to me some magical miracle cure all. YMWV. |

confusing? You just run "apt-get install wine", well actually, "sudo apt-get install wine", how is that confusing. Or just pick it in synaptic if you use that as a gui.

If you're new to Linux, you might find this a bit confusing, but you're not actually supposed to go online and search for a wine download site. Most Linux distributions (including Ubuntu) uses a so-called package manager - this is a very important concept to understand if you wish to use Linux. The package manager has access to literally thousands of software packages (in the case of Ubuntu, almost 30,000 as far as I remember).
In Ubuntu, you can choose to use either a command line interface (CLI) or a graphical application to control the package manager. I suggest you use the graphical one if you're not too comfortable using the command line yet. The application is called Synaptic, and you can most likely find it in your panel menu (System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager). That being said, you really should install a more recent version of Ubuntu. That will make your life much, much easier. I suggest you read this page very throughly. It will explain most of the concepts at hand. |

u will need to manually choose your distribution's specific package. |

For other posters on this thread-
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ubuntu-888826/ Not quite a double post of the same question, but its close. |
The link that dEnDrOn gave you was to this site: http://www.wineHQ.org/download/ ... If your browser can't recognize the link just type it into your address bar and it should go.
If it is at all ever possible to get your computer running Ubuntu to an internet connection, It has lots of options for downloading without having to rely on a link or website for what you need. Case in point, All of my stuff comes from 3 methods; 2 of which have a Graphic User Interface (or GUI) to make it simple as pie. 1) Synaptic Package Manager -GUI 2) Ubuntu Software Center - GUI 3) Terminal - click System > Accessories > Terminal and type [b]sudo apt-get install {packagenamehere}[b] Hope that helped, Good luck :) |

I can go to http://www.wineHQ.org/download/ I can click the link that says "Download Ubuntu packages" And on that site there are 2 links: 1. "click this link to install the wine1.3 package" 2. "click this link to install the wine1.2 package" if I click one of them it just says "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (apt) isn't associated with any program." Could someone help by clicking on the link that says "click this link to install the wine1.2 package" and the post the address ;) |

but i tried save link and nothing happend... COULD SOMEONE JUST GET THE LINKS ADRESS :banghead: |
Stop shouting and start reading the bleeping documentation. On the very site you just looked at it says that the apt:// address will only work once you have added the ubuntu-wine PPA repository to your Ubuntu installation (which is of course fruitless if you haven't got a working network connection).
