why are you so frustrated....you need to be patient enough to get things done.....
u can't download it in windows and then install it there....this way......^_^
Im not shouting Im just puting it in cap so people know what i want to know
You are shouting.
you said already though that you're on ubuntu 8 (which doesn't exist... it's either 8.04 or 8.10) and the repo there doesn't have pacakges for systems that old.
After quick searching i would also suggest either get that PC to network somehow or at least upgrade to newer Ubuntu so that you have higher luck finding packages for offline installation and avoid missing dependencies during offline install. Also YouTube has videos about installation.
I need to download wine but my browser dosent like the links so I need someone to do this for me...
go to http://www.wineHQ.org/download/
click the link that says "Download Ubuntu packages"
And on that site there are 2 links:
1. "click this link to install the wine1.3 package"
2. "click this link to install the wine1.2 package"
please click the 2nd link ("click this link to install the wine1.2 package")
After that please post the url so I can manually go to that site...

Sorry, this makes no sense. First, you can install Wine via apt-get or aptitude. Second, if you're browser is that broken that you can't download something, a link to whatever you can't download won't make a difference. Most importantly...if you just mouse-over that link, it'll display in the status bar of your browser...you can read it yourself from there:
is this what you're looking for: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+...cppa1_i386.deb
I can't check because I use fedora
NB: even if this is the file you want, I bet there'll be dependencies when you try to install it, so the best solution is to connect your linux box to the Internet.
Sticking to one thread reduces board clutter, and makes sure that you get a more detailed answer. Posting it twice, will just have people running you through the same steps that you where already shown.
I have ubuntu 8 and in says on the web site "cannot find wine 1.2"
Ubuntu 8.* is NO LONGER SUPPORTED!!!
It will no longer recieve any important security updates, and you're completely missing out on the package manager functionality. You really should upgrade.

To reinforce the need for an upgrade, Here is what is seen at winehq:
"binary and source .debs for Ubuntu Karmic (9.10), Lucid (10.04 LTS), Maverick (10.10), and Natty (11.04)"
You'll notice that 8 (.04 or .10) is not listed. Even if you got the download to work it wouldn't be right. I do not think using a binary/source meant for 9.10 or 10.04 will work with 8.x. I could be wrong though.
So if you have a PC with an internet connection, Just burn a newer version (or a new distro!) to CD or DVD ... These things are free, No reason not to stay up to date. Also, Zorin which is built on Ubuntu comes with Wine installed (as did the other distros I am using). Updating or switching may save you all this hassle and they will be supported.
I sincerely hope this helps, You really seem to be having a rough time, and that is never fun for anyone. Good luck!
