Where can I get info on how to set up the X window manager and then somthng like KDE?

I recently installed Fedora Core 2 and choose to install no packedges, so I'm here surfing on Lynx : , anyway I want to learn how to set up the X window manger (isn't that what it's called?) and then just GNOME or KDE or just anything. Now I tried and I didn't get it to work, so I really would like if someone could point me at some documents on how to do this or tell me how. Hope someone can help me.
