Where can I get info on common Linux directories and what's normally stored there?

Where can I get a list of common UNIX/Linux directories found on most systems and what's usually stored in those directories by default?

Thanks.

Check out the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard

Hope this helps.

Being fairly new to Linux myself, I was looking for this information too. Here are some of the sites I found useful:

http://users.netwit.net.au/~pursang/dtil/howto_4.html
http://www.documatrix-usa.com/tutch3.htm
http://www.tuxfiles.org/linuxhelp/linuxdir.html
http://www.dynamic-apps.com/linux_directories.jsp
http://doc.vic.computerbank.org.au/t...torystructure/
http://www.codemartial.org/Linux/ii.shtml

Also, if you use Google's special Linux Search you'll be able to find information easier.

Good luck :D

I forgot the best site, The Linux Documentation Project (LDP).

This is their [very] in-depth article on Linux directories
http://tldp.org/LDP/Linux-Filesystem...tml/index.html
