Where are font files in linux?

Trying to find a tff or equivalent file in linux. I'm running redhat 8.0 and using KDE. I want to find the fonts file's that openoffice writer uses. I would appreciate any help. eastj

In red hat 9/gnome you can look in fonts:/// in nautilus.

The font library is assembled from a variety of directories. Look in /etc/fonts/fonts.conf if you can't upgrade.

I need the actual bitmapped font file to use with perl::GD or perl::ImageMagick. J
