Where are drivers located (which directory)?

I finally located a proper Lexmark driver for my Dell PL 1500 printer and downloaded the tarball. Now my question is: Where (into what directory) should I install the driver?

How I can find out where drivers reside on my box in general?

I'm Running Fedora Core 4.

FYI, the Dell Personal Laser 1500 is a rebranding of the Lexmark E321 according to my research, and Lexmark now has drivers explicitly for Linux for many of its printers. It had been an iffy thing.

If it's a tarball, it should have instructions in it.
"make install" or somesuch should put them in the right place.

Normally (I'm loathe to describe any RH derivative as "normal), you'd look in /lib/modules/<kernel version>

Thanks, syg00.

I did extract the tarball and it just extracted into the directory I had placed the tar, unlike others that had automatically put the files in the right places. I'll check out /lib/modules now.

As I screw around with linux, it gets more and more interesting.

Dunno where you found a tarball, or why you bothered for that matter.
Looks like Lexmark have an RPM for that printer on their site.
I would expect that to be the way to go.
