when i try to install ubuntu partitions dont show up
when i try to install ubuntu or linux mint the partitions dont show up. basically it tells me that no partitions or operating systems are detected on my harddrive, when in fact i have a few. i have installed a few linux distributions and have never had this problem before. however if i try to install mandriva, the installer detects all of my partitions. i am currently running mandriva.

Most likely it's that Ubuntu can't see you hard drive at all. I ran into this with Ubuntu and a buggy mobo SATA controller. I can't say for sure if that's your problem, but I'm pretty sure that it is an issue with the hard drive controller.
You could try adding Code:
pci=nomsi |
ok i dont know how to do that.

Well what distro are you trying to install? I think I can help you with Ubuntu, but anything else I'm sorry.

Probably the problem is with the old Mandriva Partitions

When you boot from the CD, you should see the language choices. After that, there are a options at the bottom of the screen and one of them is Boot options. Press the button that goes with that, and add pci=nomsi to the line, then continue.
