When graphical displays are supposed to come up they don't

Okay, this may be a very simple fix. I've used Sun machines in the past, but now I'm trying to use red hat 9, and I'm stuck on installation. When I went to install by the graphics option, the programs load then it says when probing for the monitor that an "unknown monitor" was found. After that everything goes blank and my monitor turns off.

I've loaded redhat in text mode but after it's done loading, I still get the exact same message and then my monitor goes blank.

Does anyone have some suggestions. I am extremely new at loading this operating system onto my machine.

Thanks,
Brad

try to download knoppix/slax, burn it and boot it. once you can boot into X (graphical enviro) you should be able to use settings from /etc/X11/XF86Config(-4) in your RedHat installation..
