I have been a Windows User (shame on me!) for the last 10 years or so, however 2 weeks ago I thought enough is enough and brought SuSe Linux 8 Professional. I have this up and running using the KDE desktop and its brilliant!, really impressed.
However, one think I have found out is that there are almost hundreds of choices for each application, therefore before I start to customize my machine I was wondering what peoples opinions are about the following, ie. which is the best to use :-
Best Mail Client
Best App for Creating MP3's
Best App for Creating CD's (Burner)
Best App for Watching DVD's
Best MP3 Player
Best Web Browser
+Any Decent Home Accounting Packages so that I can do everything in Linux!!
One Thing to bare in mind, is that I am GUI guy so GUI based apps would be best!!!!!!!!!
I know that this may start a War!!, but I thought I would seek everyones opinion before I go any further.
There are nothing known as "the best one" among applications. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. What you get from here is simply the user's personal opinion. So try everything until you find what is the "best" for you .
These are just my choices:
Mail Client=Sylpheed or Mozilla mail
App for Creating MP3's=dont create mp3s
App for Creating CD's (Burner)=xcd-roast(get the latest-alpha10!)
App for Watching DVD's=dont do that either(yet)but I've heard a lot of good things about Ogle
MP3 Player=XMMS
Web Browser=Mozilla

All, Thanks for the feedback so far, just to clear up some confusion :-
for MP3's - I mean converting a 'ripped' CD in WAV format into MP3.
Also on the browser front, a lot of people used Mozilla, but I hear that it doesnt have "nice" rendering of fonts, and has Java support problems...Am I right here!!?
