what type of my linux
 
hi all,

im really a newbie to linux.. i dont even know what version or type of linux installed in my machine... this is because im using someone machine that left my company before.... so here i am on my 2nd day of working without any deep knowledge in linux... when i started up the linux.. it requires me to enter a login and password... i knew that i have to setup an account to start using it... but the problem is i dont have the current username and password..... during start up:- i have 2 message/error or something? :-

i) i cannot start the X server (graphical interface). it is likely that it is not set up correctly. would u like to view the X server output to diagnose the prob? when i clicked NO, the system replied:-

I will disable this X server for now. Restart GPMwhen it is configured correctly.

Finally the last command was :-

LinuxTest.bumihiway.com login :

Without root access, or some Linux knowledge, you're going to have a hard time fixing a problem like this. Your best bet is to call up whoever set up the machine at your work, and have them deal with it. The X error needs root access to fix, meaning only your administrator will have the ability to fix it, and that's the person that really should do the work in situations like this.

Fixing this without passwords is possible, but that's system cracking, and even if you need to do work on the system, most superiors will frown on you breaking into a company computer. It's best just to let the proper people know there is a problem, and allow them to fix it.
