What makes the virtual machine device size high compared to bare metal
I tried to clone the image on bare metal and Virtual machine using clonezilla.
Both the kernel size is same(Just differed by 1-2MB). But the cloned image sizes varied with a difference of 300-400MB. Please help me in pointing the difference that makes the vm image size high. Your help is greatly appreciated!! |
Compare the packages installed on both machines, compare any user data on the machines, any log files, etc. Depending on your VM and installation procedure you may find that different kernel modules are installed on the VM.

Are you saying that the kernel is 400mb different size from one to the other? Or do you mean something else.?

And What I mean to say is, the cloned images of virtual machine and bare metal setup varied with difference of 400MB. |
Just a guess but I'd assume the virtual machine image would also have to contain some sort of configuration snapshot of the status of the host OS it's running on.
Whaja think? Play Bonny! :hattip: |
What's the output of df on both the physical and virtual machines?
