What kind of jobs do yall "linux gurus" have? (networking)
Actually where can I go as a beginner and shadow people in computer fields for free? Just to follow them and ask questions.
Is this possible or must I intern? |
Be cool and laid back -- You Have Time
"i'm trying my best to learn the ins and outs of linux, and how it all works. I guess Im freaking out about what to do"
Another path (and it will move towards knowledge more efficiently), is to just Play with a distribution and install sections and twink them. It should be like play at this point. Since on most jobs you won't have that luxury. Eventually, you can take few old PCs and set up a test network where you live. But please spend time on a desktop first before you create a mini-network. We all learned by trial and error (mostly error). This takes time and it will make you a more complete professional in the long run. I assume you feel you don't have time to slow down. But that is usually untrue. All the best, and have some fun with a bizarre OS. |
At home, the above advice is good.
If you are studying at an academic institution, then ensure you try get high grades. Once you leave, the actual final mark won't matter much after the first job, but attempting to get a very high mark will ensure you really learn what you are taught, & also lead you (in your own time) to extend that knowledge into other areas beyond the course material. Interning is a good idea to get a feel for the real world and network in the personal/work sense. Many have obtained their first full time job from a company they interned with whilst studying. I believe you can even get paid (somewhat) as an intern. For more specific info, we'd have to know where you are geographically and at which institution. |
