What Kernel Should I choose?

Hey there,

Major linux nOoB here. Just trying to get my head around this new linux thing it is really cool. My question is I just installed Slackware 10.1 and bump into problem. I have a selection of Kernels to choose from but I dont know which one to choose. Im running and x86 processor, have a radeon 9200 128mb, Realtek AC'97 on board sound, an hp 5550 printer. In other words my computer is a compaq persario S4000NX ehhh i know disgusting. Anyways do kernals affect my drivers and if so does anybody know what kernel i should use on my system.

you should be okay by using the (default) bare.i kernel if your motherboard is APM...

if your motherboard is ACPI go for the bareacpi.i kernel...

I'd try the bareacpi.i kernel for that machine - from what info about it I can find, I'd wager it'd have an ACPI motherboard:

" The Compaq Presario S4000NX features a Intel Celeron 2.4-gigahertz / 400-megahertz processor;"

Good Luck!
