What is UID mapping?
:newbie: |
I think this may be used in different ways. The one I know is UID mapping for NFS.
The idea is that Unix supplies a UID (user id) and a GID (group id) when a Unix user accesses a foreign machine - say Windows. Windows then has a UID mapping feature - it maps unix identifiers to a Windows username to decide whether to grant access to a file. |

What do you mean with it maps unix identifiers to a Windows username ?
What is done by the mapping? I know what the UID is but I don't know what ddoes it means with UID mapping. Please someone explain this to me. :newbie:  :( |
