what is this x3270???
I am on FC3
Under system tools i have "x3270" i have googled but couldn't find any reasonable easy info. can any body tell me plz whats it, and what is its use??? |
its a terminal emulator for the 3270 terminal type. unless you explicitly need it for a particular purpose then you probably can just ignore it.
it windows when you've got hyperterminal and you use that to open terminal connections down a serial cable or whatever you can setthe terminal type. its similar to that. if you don't understand what its for its very likely that you don't need to use it |
As he said, it's a terminal emulator, as it happens an old IBM std used to talk to mainframes. Sometimes known as a green-screen ie used to be green phosphor/writing on a black background.

is it something equivalent that we use in the windows for configuring e.g. cisco router through CON port???
|
nope. it'll have an equivilent in windows which does exactly as chrism01 said. i assume its along the same lines as the way you configure routers and switches using a COM port but more substantial as its actually for configuring mainframes.
there is plently of info on google if you search for it but unless you've got an old ibm mainframe knocking around you're not really gonna be able to use this program |
x3270 is a (great) free emulator of IBM 3270 terminals. It emulates a 3270 over telnet to connect to a IBM Mainframe (aka IBM zSeries).
It's very usefull to who works with them (banks, telecoms, etc). More about TN3270 at http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserve...pdf/tn3270.pdf You can find more information about Z/OS and zSeries at http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/z/os/zos/bkserv/ |
