What is the best way to start out learning Linux.I would like to use a live cd to

start but I can't get any of them to work with my wireless laptop.

thanks

All 3 of the posts were helpful,I learned from all. What won't work is the wireless.I can get the cd to boot and all but I can't get all the updates and anything that needs downloading to finish the distro.I've tried knop[pix and Ubuntu and mandriva.I have tried 2 different dongles to try and get it working but still doesn't work. My windows 10 works fine with both dongles but not the Linux.

In what way won't they work? You'll need to provide a bit more specific information - can you get the live CDs to boot, which distros are you trying to use, etc. You mention wireless, is it just that that isn't working?

If it's wifi which doesn't work: There are of course unsupported wifi chips, but also most Broadcom chips, though often supported, will not work on any Linux system "out of the box" without proprietary firmware obtained from the vendor. Or is some cases the proprietary driver may be needed.

My spiffy new lenovo laptop's wifi isn't recognized by fedora 22 live, but a $1.98 usb wifi dongle from a raspberry pi solved the problem easily.
