Administrative tasks?

Shell scripting, the standard (in the since of wildly used, not terms of say, ISO) language to handle administrative tasks (by which, i assume you mean calling other programs, and piping output to/from them.

start with the unix command line which is the interactive interface to shell ... commands you type there are the basis for system programming. anything you can type onto the command line can also be placed in a file, turning the sequence of shell commands into shell script or program by running the script. like if the script was in a file called "myshellscript", one way to run it is by typing "sh myshellscript" on the command line.
