What Is The Best Linux Package And Where Can I Download It?

I want to play with Linux on an old Win98 machine. ReactOS I have a copy on CD, but can not get to load without XP seems to run counter to the purpose of Linux! What is a good start? I am glad that the format of drive C, and only Linux is easier to...

It would help if you could tell us a bit about the specs of that computer, but since it's a Win98 era computer, you will probably need to look at a smaller distro like Puppy linux, or DSL. Even then, it may not be worth while as you will possibly need to upgrade the computer just to get started.

you can probably go with an older version of a particular distro. A lot of distros have all older versions up to their most current available to you. Pretty much any distro will run on any computer. You may or may not get a nice pretty desktop to go with it though

You may look at something like Fedora core 1 or 2. Very outdated, but should run on the pc. As chuckbuhler said above, it's hard to say for sure without knowing the specs of that pc

Do you mean that you cannot boot from the CD? Can you boot from any CD?

I don't understand this....

Please clarify 2 things:
Can the computer be booted from a CD (any CD)?
Do you want both Windows and Linux---or just Linux?
