What is my desktop???
Greetings!
Running Suse enterprise 10 (SLED 10), I have a desktop without Gnome's foot or KDE's K? Is Suse giving me a Suse desktop, or is it one of the two mentioned above? How can I tell? Also, assuming I install both KDE and Gnome, how can I switch between the two, eventually to settle on the one I like best?? Thanks!!! Michel |
Generally you should be able to pick which one from the login screen under "Sessions" or the like.
I guess you could try ps aux|grep kwin to see if it's kde. I'm not sure what gnomes window manager is called (metacity, maybe?). |
The gnome window manager is known as gdm. So you would issue the following commands in the termanal.
ps aux:grep gdm and to install gnome you would issue the following commands. #sudo apt-get install gdm #sudo apt-get install gnome. I believe that the standard suse desktop is KDE. |
gdm is not the window manager, but the login manager. I have gdm installed on my debian box but boot into kde, which uses kwin as the window manager.

BTW what is 'Namaste' in French? Salut?? |
Salut is a good French word for Namaste. Of course Salut I think means only 'Hello' where 'Namaste' can be used in greeting and parting both.
