Question What is dbus?

I want to configure the yum-update deamon [yum-updatesd] so I opened /etc/yum/yum-updatesd.conf and I saw this line:

# how to send notifications (valid: dbus, email, syslog)
emit_via = dbus

What is dbus? There's no man page about dbus.
