What is CA file?

In SLED 10 there is a network tool in a notification area by default (NetworkManager Applet), which can be used to create, configure and manage VPN connections.
But when I tried to create a new connection, I was asked a CA file. What is CA file and can I create it for myself to use? I couldn't find any detailed descriptions...

The leters CA are the initials of Certificate Authority, which can be used for many purposes.

Start you browser, go to www.google.com/linux, and search for "ca file" for more information.

well, I've searched for it in several searching systems, but couldn't find any information that helped me, maybe because of my poor english.
So what tool should I use to generate the CA file?
