[SOLVED] what is ~/.xsession-errors file ?

Hello y'all. I need someone to tell me the usefulness of this file "~/.xsession-errors" in my home directory. That's one. Secondly, I have this error everytime I try to log-in.the errors msg - " your last session lasted less than 10 seconds use one of the fails safe to see of you can fix it or check -/.xsession-errors for details." I need help please .distro Red hat

Go to the terminal and log into the account that is having the log-in problem and

Code:

cat .xsession-errors > xsession-errors

to save the file for later viewing and then

Code:

cat .xsession-errors

and write down the fatal error and post here.

I already wrote or should I posted the fatal error the way its was. Go through the pat and you'll see the fatal error in double quotes.

There has to be more than just that error. Have you logged into the terminal and checked the .xsession-errors file?

The purpose is to log errors for the xsession. A user may not have access to system logs, so this is a way for the user to know what is wrong.

To andrewthomas , YOu are the best. think i know whats causing the problem now. made some alteration about logging in to my terminal in my ~/.bashrc file of one of the users on my system, i wrote a bash script file actually to test a particular condition before the terminal can be accessed. So i guess the problem came from that, or what you think? Thanks alot

Hello, thanks to andrewthomas you really was of great help. Would just post this for whoever might have problems eth its ~/.xssession-errors to serve as a reference to anyone. Basically, just open the ~/.xssession-errors , and you will see the problem to your in-ability to log stored in there.
