For an easy command relating to hardware & drivers (and some other things)
Code:

inxi -Fxx
shows a good compact listing...

But everything in that excellent list is relevant to all distros, not just SUSE.

I consider Red Hat to be reference standard Linux. Although Debian is considered by many to the reference standard computer operating system. If you're using testing, try getting the system to work with stable first. And if you want a taste of Red Hat, try centos. Make sure to learn rpm like the back of your hand.

As far as drivers for your hardware, run 'lspci -vv | less' and look at the last entry for each device. That's the driver name. I also doubt that you have i917 graphics, since the i917 is a Samsung smartphone. There used to be Intel i915 graphics, but I doubt if you have one in your lappy.

I am glad I joined this forum because I have learned a lot in a very short amount of time.

I did look up my system with that command and I recieved back this

Code:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 530 (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller
])
Subsystem: Razer USA Ltd. HD Graphics 530
Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisI
NTx+
        Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- IN
Tx-
        Latency: 0
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 138
        Region 0: Memory at dd000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
        Region 2: Memory at 70000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
        Region 4: I/O ports at f000 [size=64]
[virtual] Expansion ROM at 000c0000 [disabled] [size=128K]
        Capabilities: <access denied>
        Kernel driver in use: i915
        Kernel modules: i915

amongst a lot of other input... I think that's where I got the i91...from.
I am currenting on Debian buster...definately would like to learn as much as I can from it and how to solve the small issues I have ran into.

Resolving "issues" is one of the best ways to learn. Experimenting and possibly creating issues is another.

I don't have nearly as much to offer as other members but I have a few things to say.

# Distros that just worked for me:
Lubuntu (Ubuntu with LXDE/LXQT)
Crunchbang (Now a continuation by the Crunchbang community called: Bunsen Labs)
Debian with Gnome

And Bodhi Linux (Based on Ubuntu, features the Moksha desktop) came close to an distro that just worked out of the box.

I used a Compaq Presario CQ60 for those first three distros and an old Sony VAIO notebook from like 2001 for Bodhi Linux.

I would consider all these distros, with the exception of Debian with Gnome. to be lightweight.
